I think the reason some of these knives are so stiff is because Microtech recognizes that the spring will eventually lose some of its tension, as all springs do, with thousands upon thousands of lengthening and retractions; it's better to be overly stiff than to be loose and break-in to a knife that doesn't deploy correctly. The combat troodon is significantly bigger than the livewire, it is probably more comparable to an ultratech in size.
